You know what to do....now here's what not to do when you have a used car for sale.

If you have a used car for sale try to avoid doing these things.

These are some common mistakes that people make when they are trying to sell a used car. Put yourself in the mindset of any potential buyer.

  • Don't lie. Selling requires trust. If a potential buyer even thinks you're being dishonest they'll walk away.

  • Don't rush anyone. Let a potential buyer take their time. The more time they spend with the car the harder it'll be to walk away.

  • Don't be inflexible. Unless you have a very rare car, a potential buyer expects that they'll get to negotiate a better price.

  • Don't take anything personal. A potential buyer might make a few remarks about your used car for sale that you don't appreciate. Put it behind you....your goal is to sell the car.

  • Don't assume anything. As good as you think your car is, it may not appeal to as many people as you originally thought.

  • Don't price your vehicle too high. It seems obvious but many people put a higher price with the intention of negotiating a lower price. Too high and you'll turn people away before they even take a look at the car.

  • Don't forget to advertise. Hey, if you want to attract more people you've got to inform them that you are selling a vehicle.

A used car for sale can't sell itself. You have to take an active role in selling it.
